Introducing Ten Thousand Bakes!

Updated: Jun 12

Welcome to Ten Thousand Bakes, a baking blog created by a proud Minnesota baker! When trying to come up with a name for this site, I wanted to have a name that encompassed all that I am as a baker but was unsure how best to express that. Most people first found my baking endeavors through my Instagram page which began in 2018 as a place to share my enthusiasm for the Minnesota State Fair and document my own entries in the state fair baking competitions. Over the years it has morphed into sharing more and more of my everyday baking so I wanted it to go beyond my original "myfairbaker" moniker.

Another one of my hobbies which often ties back into baking is foraging. I have been an avid forager for over fifteen years and am always learning about and looking for fun new things out in the woods that I can use in the kitchen. I never shared much about this side of my life until I was on The Great American Baking Show. Minnesota is known for our winters but I'd love for us to also be known for our vast array of wild fruits, nuts, greens and mushrooms. I have lived all over Minnesota and every area has its unique culinary finds and if I can encourage you to go discover what's outside your own front door, then we can all share and discover what the great outdoors has to offer!

In line with foraging and using local ingredients, I have a kitchen with an endless supply of honey. As passionate as I am about baking, my mom is equally passionate about bee keeping. I started baking with honey before she started keeping bees as one of the baking competitions at the Minnesota State Fair celebrates the many uses there are for honey. Once my mom started her own hives though and sharing her honey with me, my love for the ingredient has only grown. I could not be more proud of what she has done with her girls and can't wait to share that world with you.

Baking really is my greatest passion in life but there is so much more to it for me than just picking a recipe and making pretty things. Its something that gives me a chance to share a piece of my story and the stories of those that have come before me. Its something where I can include my own hobbies and those closest to me whenever possible. It is an extension of who I am and who that is at the core is just a quiet and quirky Minnesota artist who could not be more proud to be from here and hopes that through this site you will find recipes you love and learn why those of us from Minnesota are so proud to be from the "Land of 10,000 Lakes." Or, in this case, the land of 10,000 bakes.
